What is cross-section

Cross-sectioning is a way to cut cross-sections of solid objects. An object is cross-sectioned by taking one cross-sectional plane through the three dimensional object, and then sending it through another cross-sectional plane orthogonal (at right angles) to the other. This process can be repeated many times. The virtual cross sections created by this process form what looks like an array of cross sections that can be displayed together or individually as needed.

What are cross sections used for in point cloud software?

The following are some representative uses of cross-sectional analysis:

– Mining can avoid costly errors like breakage with mineral ores using cross-sectioning at depths before mining begins; this technique also helps to estimate how much ore can be obtained before reaching the next cross-section.

– Archeologists cross-section caves, rock shelters and other subterranean structures. This allows them to see exactly where artifacts are located within the strata of the site without exposing it to weathering or damage from humans during excavation.

– Geophysicists cross-section boreholes that have been drilled into earth or rock in order to help identify pockets of oil or gas that might not otherwise be visible with satellite imaging alone. The cross-sections allow for visualization of stratigraphic layers as well as their contents.

What can you do with Cross sections with point cloud software

– Use cross-sections to compare cross-sections in point clouds for further analysis.

– Print cross-sections in point cloud software.

– See all variations of cross section cuts in the results, which allows you to see depth

– Automatically find depth with cross-sectioning in point cloud software.

– The algorithmic method cuts into cross-sections along paths set out by the user, so the user specifies how they would like their cave cross-sectioned, providing complete control over what can be seen in each cut. Instead of cutting through the entire dataset at once, it divides up all of the data into smaller subsets according to several parameters that are provided by the user (such as wall thickness and curvature). Each subset is then processed  individually until all of the cross-sections have been derived. This method allows for cross sections to be generated faster than with previous methods, as subsets are able to be processed independently.”

– Analyze cross sections without historical bias between cross section cuts in point cloud software.

– Automatically place cross-section cut lines at specified intervals across the model with point cloud software.

– Create cross section using point cloud data or models easily with Pointools PointCloud native tools. Pointools is the only company that offers this functionality completely within any CAD program, which means you can save your cross sections back into your CAD file to continue working on them along side your model! You can also save these cross sections into Pointools PointCloud native formats.
